History/Belief Statement

Church History

Our Christian ministry to the community began in 1924. The concept of one church for many faiths came from the need for a church for the families working for the old Louisville Cement Company. Because they represented many different denominations, the idea of an ecumenical

congregation seemed like the best solution. Mr. William Speed, president of the cement company, and his sister, Mrs. Olive Speed Sackett, donated the money for construction of the church, which was named in honer of their father, James B. Speed.

In decades since its inception, Speed Memorial Church has remained committed to a belief that "what we have in common outweighs our differences" Our doors are open to all who seek a clear relationship with God through Jesus Christ, including those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior who desire to explore their faith further, and those who are curious about the Christian  faith.

Belief Statement

“Confessing that Jesus is the Christ, believing in our heart He is our Redeemer, purposing to walk in His ways as they may be made known unto us, pledging the support of our service, our prayers, and our resources, and seeking the guidance of His Spirit, we unite in this Church for the worship of God and the service of humanity.”
