About Us

The Speed Memorial Church Council is a group of twelve people who are 

entrusted with the general oversight and government of the congregation and may adopt such plans for the governance of the church, as are not in conflict with the Constitution and By-Laws. They regulate and provide for the affairs of the church, make arrangements for the support of the pastor and, in the event of his/her death, resignation, or removal, to supply a replacement as soon as possible. It is also the responsibility of the council to approve any temporary filling of the pulpit should the need arise.

In addition, it is the responsibility of the council to develop long-range plans for the church and to regularly audit the programs of the church. The council establishes goals and objectives consistent with the Constitution and By-Laws and the mission statement of the Church.
